Thinking Dominoes and Jewish Identity

 

Half of the categories provide the educator and the students with specific leads for discussion and exploration of the Torah and the land of Israel.

 

 

 

1. There is a category "festival" which is matched to pictures of: Pesach, Shavuot, Succot and Rosh Hashana - four jewish holidays.

 

 

2. There is "fruit" which is matched to pictures of: Grapes, a fig, a date and a pomegranate – four of the seven species.

 

 

3. "Town in Israel" is matched to: Jerusalem, Tsfat, Hebron and Tiberius – the four holiest cities.

 

 

4. "Natural Element" is matched to: Fire, Wind, Earth and Water. As explained in jewish tradition, fire is connected to Jerusalem; wind to Tsfat; earth to Hebron and water to Tiberius.

 

 

5. "Musical Instrument" is matched to: A violin, a harp, a trumpet and a drum; all of which are mentioned in the Tanach.

 

 

6. "Animal" is matched to: A cow, a sheep, a donkey and a lion; all of which are also present in the Bible.

 

 

The remaining categories comprise: Color, number, season, direction, furniture and shape.
